Dr. Bryan joined OrthoArkansas in Little Rock in June 2008. His focus is athletic injuries, but he also sees a large number of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. His medical interest is the relationship between patellofemoral pain syndrome and the development of knee osteoarthritis.

Dr. Bryan volunteers as a preceptor for the Family Medicine department at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, teaching medical students and residents. He is the team physician for the AA Arkansas Travelers of the Anaheim Angels organization and for Henderson State University Athletics, where he is a volunteer faculty member in the Athletic Training Education Program. He also volunteers at Shepherd’s Hope Clinic in Little Rock.

Prior to joining OrthoArkansas, Dr. Bryan served as team physician for the Arkansas Twisters Arena Football team, and the Arkansas RiverBlades hockey team, and various high schools.

Raised in North Little Rock, Dr. Bryan graduated from Hendrix College in Conway. Upon completing his medical degree and family medicine residency at UAMS, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedic Center in Tulsa. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and holds board certification in both family medicine and sports medicine. He is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. Professional memberships include the AAFP and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

A licensed pilot, Dr. Bryan is the Wing Medical Officer for the Arkansas Civil Air Patrol, holding the rank of Major. He is qualified as a Search and Rescue pilot and also participates in US Customs and DEA missions. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and Arkansas history. Together with his wife, Ann, an interior designer, the Bryans enjoy independent film and music, visiting art galleries and museums, and historic preservation. The Bryans live in a restored home in Little Rock’s Quapaw Quarter and they have recently completed the restoration of an antebellum home in Hollywood, Arkansas. Ann and Jim have one daughter, Laura Carrolyn, who is studying Fine Arts at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute.
