Born and raised in Little Rock, Dr. Wassell earned a Bachelor of Science in history from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. After graduation and before pursuing his medical education, Dr. Wassell was an Air Force Captain and F-16 fighter pilot who flew combat missions in the NATO Peace-Keeping No-Fly Zone Mission in Bosnia in 1996.
While flying remains a great love, Dr. Wassell followed in the footsteps of his mentor, Dr. John Wilson, and entered the field of orthopedics. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Dr. Wassell stayed in Little Rock, completing his internship and residency training in orthopedics at UAMS. He joined OrthoArkansas in 2006.
An avid artist, Dr. Wassell links art's creativity to the reconstructive nature of orthopedics. He enjoys "fixing" people by treating their injuries, adding to their quality of life or returning them to their pre-injury status.
Dr. Wassell is Board Eligible for Certification by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
In his spare time, Dr. Wassell enjoys flying as a hobby. He also enjoys fly-fishing, deer and duck hunting, reading, painting, drawing, photography and spending time with friends and family in Little Rock.
