Victor G. Vargas, MD, has trained in both family medicine as well as orthopedics and traumatology. He is fluent in English and Spanish. Having completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he was honored with the outstanding resident award, he also trained in orthopedics and trauma surgery in Colombia. Dr. Vargas earned his medical degree and specialization from Javeriana University Medical School in Bogota, Colombia. Prior to coming to the United States, Dr. Vargas had a successful private practice and academic position for more than 10 years in Colombia. Dr. Vargas is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Latin American Orthopedic and Traumatology Society, and the Colombian Orthopedic and Traumatology Surgery Society among others.
Dr. Vargas has a special interest in primary care sports medicine and musculoskeletal conditions. He loves teaching residents of the UAMS Department of Family Medicine and coordinates such rotations in his role of Clinical Instructor. Dr. Vargas stays abreast of new technologies and skills such as musculoskeletal ultrasound and the benefits of biological injections (PRP).
He loves sports. Late afternoons and weekends you can often find him on the soccer field sidelines cheering for his children’s teams. His wife Martha is also a physician. They love the life they have made helping people and raising their three beautiful children, Camilla, Andres and David in the Natural State.
