Meet Dr. Black

Dr. David Black is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in problems of the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. A native of Jackson, Miss., Dr. Black earned his MD and PhD at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed orthopedic residency training at the University of Mississippi, nurturing a long-standing interest in conditions of the hand and wrist. After residency, he completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center in Philadelphia, Penn. While in Philadelphia, Dr. Black learned advanced surgical and postoperative therapy techniques that he now employs for the benefit of patients from all corners of Arkansas.  

Dr. Black performs standard and specialized hand surgery techniques including microsurgery, wrist and small joint arthroscopy, upper extremity joint replacement and fracture care, as well as tendon and nerve repair. Dr. Black has combined his education and research endeavors, which led to published articles and book chapters concerning advanced tendon repair techniques and treatment of wrist injuries. He is an active candidate member of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Throughout his extensive training, Dr. Black has been recognized with awards for excellence and achievement, including Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. Today he uses well-planned surgical procedures to restore flexibility, movement and comfort to patients with hand and upper extremity problems.
