Meet Dr. Wirges

Dr. Wirges was born in Russellville, Ark., and attended Arkansas Tech University, earning a bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry. He enrolled at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Wirges completed his medical training with a surgical internship and general surgery residency at Texas Tech University and a hand surgery fellowship with Kleinert, Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center in Louisville, Ky.

A member of Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honorary society, he was awarded multiple teaching and performance awards including Resident Teacher of the Year three consecutive years, as well as Resident of the Year. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and has been an invited speaker at national conferences and venues.

As a hand surgery specialist at OrthoArkansas, he treats patients of all ages who have a variety of conditions. He is Board Certified by the American Board of General Surgeons in both general and hand surgery and is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association of the Hand Surgery. He has a special interest in the treatment of Dupytren's disease, arthritis, trigger fingers, nerve compressions, sports injuries and trauma. He helped develop, implement, and participates in the current statewide Hand Trauma Telemedicine service, providing a higher level of care for all of Arkansas.

He and his wife Marla are actively involved in the activities of their three children and their church. As time permits, Dr. Wirges also enjoys travel, CrossFit and skiing.
