Immediate Care for Hand Injuries

When an injury occurs, time is often of the essence. Many patients assume the emergency room is their only option, but for hand and wrist trauma, OrthoArkansas offers a more specialized alternative.

Our Orthopedic Urgent Care clinics serve as hubs for immediate injury treatment. Located in Little Rock (Midtown), North Little Rock, and Conway, these facilities accept walk-ins for acute injuries. Visiting our specialized urgent care ensures you are seen by professionals who understand the intricate anatomy of the hand, rather than a generalist.

Treating Hand and Wrist Fractures

A fracture in the hand or wrist can range from a hairline crack to a complex break requiring surgical realignment. Common signs include severe pain, swelling, and an inability to move your fingers or wrist.

Accurate diagnosis is the first step to recovery. We utilize advanced imaging at our dedicated MRI & CT Centers to determine the exact nature of the break. Our orthopedic hand specialists treat a wide variety of fractures, focusing on restoring alignment to prevent future arthritis or stiffness. Treatment may involve casting, splinting, or, in more severe cases, surgical fixation using plates or screws.

The Complexity of Lacerated Tendons

While a fracture involves bone, a lacerated tendon involves the delicate tissues that allow your fingers to flex and extend. These injuries are often caused by deep cuts (lacerations) on the palm or back of the hand. If a tendon is cut, it acts like a snapped rubber band, pulling away from the injury site.

Tendon repair requires the skill of an experienced hand surgeon. This is not a procedure for a general practitioner. Our specialists perform intricate repairs to reconnect the tendon ends. For many of these procedures, we utilize the Arkansas Specialty Surgery Center in Little Rock, a facility focused specifically on outpatient orthopedic procedures. This allows for high-quality surgical care in a focused, efficient environment.
